The Immediate Area

The nearby village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is well known for its 12th-centry subterranean church (the largest in Europe), beautiful Romanesque stone church at the top of the village, private chateau, small restaurants, cafés, Sunday market and artisan shops. It is a delightful place to visit and highly deserving of its Plus Beaux Villages de France status.

Other nearby market towns include Chalais (Monday morning market) and Riberac, in the Dordogne (a renowned Friday morning market). Situated in the village of Bonnes, in which the river dissecting the village marks the boundary between the Charente and the Dordogne, Les Gravats du Bost is ideally placed to enjoy the two beautiful "departements" (counties).

Also on the doorstep are the lovely river beaches of Saint Aulaye and Aubeterre with their relaxed restaurants and traditional, French, family atmosphere. They offer more active pursuits too, such as canoeing (day trips can be organised with beautiful picnic stops), tree climbing centres, fishing and tennis courts.

Other sports can be enjoyed in the immediate area, such as walking, riding, quad-biking, jet-skiing, swimming and golf.
